Puffins - Reception Class

Welcome to the Puffin class web-page!

Week beginning 16th December 2019

A huge well done to all our wonderful children for their performance in 'Born in a barn'. We are all very proud of them as we are sure you are too.

This week we will be continuing to learn the story of the nativity and learning what it means to the Christian religion.

On Monday the children will take part in a Christmas carol concert which the Year 1 parents are invited to.

Tuesday evening is 'Carols in the courtyard' at 6pm.

Wednesday is party day.

Thursday 19th is the last day of term and we finish at 1.45pm.

Library books have been collected in for the Christmas holiday.

Letter sounds

Until Christmas we will now be revising all the sounds we have covered so far and will not send out new sounds until after Christmas.

Word walls

We will send out new word walls after Christmas.

These consists of words made from the sounds we are learning and your child should practise sounding out and blending them to read the words. There are also 2 'tricky' words included on each wall that they will have to learn by sight as they can not be sounded out.

Reading books

Our reading scheme begins with the very important step of wordless books, which we use to develop the children's vocabulary, observation skills and ability to form sentences.

The children will move onto books with words when we feel they have sufficient phonic knowledge as our books are phonic based. They should still continue to develop their story telling skills.

Maths bags

10 maths bags will be sent out every Friday (to be returned by the following Wednesday). This means that your child will receive a maths bag every 3 weeks.

We visit the school library on a Friday afternoon. The children can choose one book each week to be returned the following Friday.

PE is on Thursdays but please keep the PE kit in school as we occasionally do PE on other days.

These can be handed to a member of staff or put in your child's book bag.
